Ennui

Born into a ShadarKai noble family, Ennui followed in the footsteps of those who came before her. Upon her 113th birthday, she was sent off on her own into the Feywild to allow her natural skills to come out and enhance. As she tried on many hats, her horns came through when she was taken under wing by a well-known merchant to the lords and ladies, Alexis Cartier. She became well-versed in the art of deals and commerce, but another gift began to surface as Ennui began to mix and mingle with the Fey Court. Blips and blurbs of information would come through in conversation that she would pack away for those who could be so desperate. Afterall, sometimes words are worth more than riches. She enjoyed her time under her master’s watch until a time when his health began to fail. As he was also not a natural being of the Wilds, Thorncough infected his lungs and as the disease grew, so did Ennui’s responsibilities. You see, folks who were not born fey or that had not given up their prime being were not supposed to dwell for too long. And this was a risk Alexis took. When his time came, his book fell to Ennui and she took on the World of Wonder.

Knowing that she could also not stay in the Feywilds forever, Ennui set up shop in her own pocket plane after pulling some strings. She created an organized chaos of interlinked rooms for visitors to enjoy. Ennui had come to collect and impressive amalgamation of items over the years through trade with nobility, adventurers, and the occasional firesale at some big bad’s castle (items are items, coin is coin, and secrets are secrets). She didn’t think much about where the things she acquired came from, just that she was paid and they were paid. No loose ends. Very few favors. For those who couldn’t seem to afford much always could visit the ever-changing museum of goods. Each room seemed to serve its own purpose. One for garments, one for tools, one for weapons, one for trinkets, and so on. And in each of the rooms was lined with metal tubes that forked and move around the maze of rooms and came to stop in the shape of a horn flanked by a blinking eye. As folks would wander, Ennui could call from the main room and ask if they needed help and see what piqued anyone’s interest.

Most of the heavy items sat right in the receiving room, though. It smelled of fresh-cut cedar that lined the walls as dashes of jewel-toned light shone through the chaotically pieced-together stained glass windows onto the floor. A long till counter stretched across the room that housed a glass display case. The case was lined with elegant-looking envelopes with scribbles of names on their flaps and a variety of wax seals. A small sign stated, “Don’t see who you’re looking for? Commission our Lady today!” Behind the counter were wall shelves with ingredients and strange squirming bits with mounted weapons that seemed of extra special importance. On the end of the counter sat an ornate chest that wriggled a bit here and there. Every once in a while, it would let out a toothy yawn. Ennui could be found leaning against the counter, her cold eyes juxtaposing her toothy and sharp smile. Often she was playing with her two familiars and her pet mimic, Lucky, when she wasn’t dug into identifying and researching objects.

But how could folks enter this shop you wonder? Ennui returned to the prime plane once her affairs were in order. A beautiful wooden cart draped with soft chiffons and silks roamed across the lands pulled by two ponies. But once you made an impression with the owner herself she offered a set of patinaed copper bells. If you knocked upon an abandoned door with the bells in hand in sequence, one could access her shop with ease.

A flick through her catalogue of envelopes and a little deal here and there. Ennui has what you need, just right there.
