fairy oc planning
Hey there!~
I got the spark in me to create a new OC for RenFest. I always try to put new outfits together; however, I wanted to create a more permanent character for my rotation. I try to go at least 3-4 weeks per season at my local Ren, so having a solid choice is always key. I’ve always been fascinated by the modern depiction of fairies. I understand where the Good Folk come from, what they are, etc. I would like to draw a distinction between the creatures of mythos of the various tribes and people of old - and even people of today - and what we are creating here.
As you can see here, I have created a moodboard/purchase guide for myself. It is all themed around the wings pictures, which are from SolasWings on Etsy. They are quite the investment, but I have wanted my own wings for years and why not get the exact ones you want.
So for the base clothing, I didn’t want it to be too wild on its own. The wings truly are the star of the show and I find that fairy-inspired outfits really shine with accessories as well. I also wanted an extra excuse to buy clothing that could also be used in my everyday wardrobe. I was able to purchase the skirt from Rivitted, a slow fashion designer. I absolutely love the silhouette of the garment. I will most likely pair it with some very light tights as well as either the Noctex lace up leg warmers, or I will fashion some myself out of some old thigh highs, some lace trim and lacing to bring together that and the rings from OurWidow. For ease of wearing the wings, I have a corset I commissioned from FrenchMeadows that is in a black silk dupioni (it’s similar to this listing). The belt will be this nice Celtic Weave ring belt, as I love the design and the ring is beautiful. I have some old leather boots I will use as well for my own comfort!
So that is the base. As much as I would love to use my own hair, I am unsure of cutting my own hangs again. I go back and forth with it so much, so I have opted to creating a wig. It’s one of my favorite things to do. What I have done is get a simple black wig with a fringe and some various colored extensions to create an oil-slick like thing going on. The wig pictured in the moodboard is more so for idea of styling and not so much color. In the next post, I will most likely cover styling the wig. Makeup will need to be trialed, but the image posted in the moodboard is about where I would like to be.
The next big part is the head piece. I love creating intricate headpieces and after seeing shaggy.blue’s TikTok on her headpiece, I fell in love with the concept of using antlers again! I could only hope to make a piece as beautiful as hers. I’m not entirely sure how I will fashion it or if it will also be enveloped by flowers as per my usual crowns, but we will see! I’ll also make a post about creating that piece as well.
Anyway, thanks for delving into this moodboard with me! I hope this project comes out really neat and I hope to shoot it sometime in fall and debut her at FLRF or BARF.
But! A question… what to name her?
